FAQ

What is cloudzer0? Cloudzer0 is a sandbox for cloud computing. Here you can create a full-featured virtual server in the computing cloud. Just enter a subdomain name to create it.

Do you charge a setup fee? No, at cloudzer0 the zer0 means there's a zero setup fee.

Are there any monthly charges or hidden charges? No, zero charges! Cloudzer0 doesn't even have a billing mechanism. There are no forms to fill in, no PayPal, no credit card needed.

Do you provide support to your users? No, zero support. We provide some documentation online like this FAQ, or the user Forum, the rest is up to you. Zero means zero support.

Can I use Windows to build my site and manage it? Absolutely! You can do everything you need to with a computer running Windows.

Do you have any Windows servers? No, zero. Windows servers can spread viruses to the visitors of your site. Zero also means zero viruses.

What kind of services are on the cloud server? Right now, we offer mail, Apache2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, PHP, Perl, DAV, Subversion repositories, and a few other services. We suggest you enable and test whatever features interest you, and see how much of it actually works.

How many files or web pages can I add to my virtual server? As many as you want until you exceed your maximum allotted disk space. You can create more servers if you need more space or bandwidth.

Can I place images on my server? Yes, just as on any website. You can use ftp or upload files directly from your browser.

Can I also post private messages on my server? Yes, just as on any website. You can also create protected directories which require a login name and password.

I have my own domain. Do you charge a transfer fee? No, you can keep your present domain registered as it is. Just use the info in the confirmation email we send you to update your site records at your present domain registrar.

Can I run ads on my site? Sure, but we don't provide ads. You'll have to contact an ad network if you want ads. Try Adsense.

What's the catch. How can you do this for free? No catch. There are already many free email services. We are a free web hosting service where you can host your own domain.

What reasons might lead you to close down a virtual server? Spamming or anything illegal. Report violations to: abuse at cloudzer0 dot net.

How do I protect the investment I've put into my server? Back it up!

Do you make backups of the virtual servers? Yes, but our backups might not always have your most recent data. As the virtual server administrator you are responsible for making and keeping your own backups.

Why do you limit the sending of email from the free servers? Because spammers would love to have a free server. Your virtual server can send and receive mail. Our system places a reasonable limit on the number of recipients you can put on a message. We implement other methods meant to detect and stop bulk email sending. We delete servers and block users when attempts are made to send bulk email.

Why do you require periodic server administrator logins? Because this is a free service, we don't want to fill up our resources with material in which owner has lost interest. If the virtual server administrator doesn't log in to the control panel for 14 consecutive days, we reserve the right to delete the server to free up resources.

May I have multiple free servers? Yes, but each virtual server must have its own login page. Servers with no admin login for 14 days may be deleted.
